The Ministry for the Economy, Technology and Strategic Projects has launched the 2026 edition of the National Supporting Business Awards (NSBA), an initiative aimed at recognising organisations that have helped strengthen Malta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and improve conditions for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The awards seek to highlight projects and initiatives that have enhanced the business environment, expanded opportunities for SMEs, or encouraged entrepreneurship at both local and national level.
The competition is divided into two sections. Section A is open to government ministries, departments, public authorities and entities, local councils, and public-private partnerships. Section B is open to non-governmental organisations, trade unions, professional associations, schools, educational institutions, the University of Malta, sectoral associations and, in the case of Category 6, SMEs.
Entries may be submitted under six categories, namely: Improving the business environment and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit, Investing in entrepreneurial skills, Supporting the digital transition, Supporting the internationalisation of business, Supporting the sustainable transition and Responsible and inclusive entrepreneurship
A new feature of this year’s awards is a special prize for projects that demonstrate exceptional support for start-ups or young entrepreneurs.
The awards carry a total prize fund of €50,000. Winners in each section will receive €12,000, while second-placed entries will be awarded €7,000. Up to four special mention prizes of €2,000 each may also be awarded. The new start-up and young entrepreneur award carries a prize of €4,000.
Last year’s edition attracted a record 18 submissions. Servizzi Ewropej f’Malta won Section A, while the Malta Employers’ Association secured first place in Section B.
