The Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, Alexander Demarco, participated in the 2026 Spring Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG), held in Washington, D.C. from 13 to 18 April.
The Spring Meetings bring together central bankers, finance ministers, development officials, and private sector executives from around the world to discuss issues of global economic importance.
During his visit, Demarco held a series of high-level engagements with key international financial leaders. He met with members of the IMF Article IV Mission team, led by Nick Gigineishvili, and held discussions with IMF Executive Directors Riccardo Ercoli and Alfred Kammer.
Additionally, Demarco met with World Bank Executive Director Matteo Bugamelli, as well as the World Bank Director for the Maghreb region, Ahmadou Moustapha Ndiaye. A meeting was also held with a delegation from Liechtenstein, the Fund’s newest member.
On the sideline of the meetings, Demarco also gave interviews to Reuters, Bloomberg and Econostream.
These meetings provided an important platform to exchange views on Malta’s economic performance and outlook, as well as broader regional and global financial developments.
