Diversity charter surpasses 70 signatories

Central Bank of Malta hosts gathering to celebrate growth and launch new awareness tools.

The Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter (MDIC) has marked a period of significant growth, welcoming seven new major signatories, namely JobsPlus, DHL Express Malta, Crane Authentication, Calamatta Cuschieri, Phoenix Wise Solutions Malta, Qawra Palace Resort & Spa, and the Superintendent for Cultural Heritage.

With these additions, the Charter now counts 71 employer signatories in less than two years, representing all sectors of the Maltese economy and collectively employing more than 30,000 people.

The Malta charter continues to strongly perform and give value to the EU Platform of Diversity Charters, a European Commission-facilitated network comprising 27 national charters.

This platform unites over 17,000 organisations employing more than 17 million people across the European Union, enabling the sharing of best practices and tools on an international scale.

To celebrate this achievement, CORE Platform in collaboration with The Central Bank of Malta, hosted the third exclusive gathering for MDIC signatories on 04 December 2025.

In his opening address, Professor Edward Scicluna, Governor of the Central Bank of Malta, outlined the Bank’s core functions while underscoring its deep institutional commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI).

He detailed a strategic journey beginning with a 2021 EDI Policy, the signing of the ESCB/SSM EDI Charter in 2022, the launch of a dedicated EDI Strategy in 2023, and culminating in the Bank’s own signing of the Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter in 2025.

“These steps are not merely procedural, they reflect our unwavering determination to cultivate a workplace culture built on integrity, respect, and proactive awareness,” stated Governor Scicluna. “Our signature on the national charter integrates these principles further into the very fabric of our operations.”

Following the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), observed annually on December 3, 2025 proclaimed by the UN in 1992, the event featured a presentation on ‘“’Supported Employment and Supported Business’ by Esmeralda Micallef Zerafa and Kirsten Caruana of the Lino Spiteri Foundation, highlighting pathways to inclusive employment.

A key highlight was the premiere of CORE Platform’s latest project, a short film entitled ‘The Power of Diversity & Inclusion’, co-funded by the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector.

The video is designed as a practical conversation-starter tool for signatories, both in Malta and across the EU platform during induction or team building activities.

It addresses key charter themes including age, disability, gender, and sexual orientation with the aim of normalising discussion, reducing unconscious bias, and fostering awareness through dialogue.

The gathering concluded with a private guided tour of the Bank’s Currency Museum led by Kevin Cassar, followed by networking refreshments.

Launched and managed by the CORE Platform, the Malta Diversity & Inclusion Charter is a voluntary commitment for employers to promote diversity and inclusion in the workplace. It provides a framework for shared learning, networking, and the implementation of inclusive practices across the Maltese islands.
