FinanceMalta to host WAIFC EGM in Malta

Malta will host the World Alliance of International Financial Centres (WAIFC) Extraordinary General Meeting between March 2 and 5, 2026, a major milestone that confirms Malta’s efforts to establish itself as a financial services jurisdiction of repute.

WAIFC, the Brussels-based non-profit network of global financial centre promoters, brings together leading organisations to strengthen cooperation, share best practices, and advance initiatives shaping the international financial ecosystem.

The upcoming EGM in Malta, ahead of WAIFC’s AGM in September in Busan, will unite senior representatives to discuss strategic governance, Board decisions, project priorities, and collaboration, highlighting Malta’s growing influence within the global financial community.

“Being chosen to host the WAIFC Extraordinary General Meeting reflects Malta’s growing prominence in the global financial ecosystem and demonstrates Malta’s increasing role in the global financial ecosystem,” said Dr Bernice Buttigieg, Chief Strategy Officer of FinanceMalta, who, in October of 2024 was appointed as a board member of the WAIFC.

“It is a recognition of the country’s commitment to fostering international cooperation,” she added.

Since joining the alliance in 2022, Malta has been steadily enhancing its international visibility through participation in WAIFC activities actively enabling FinanceMalta to actively contribute to discussions on global trends in finance, including sustainable finance, fintech innovation, and cross-border regulatory collaboration.
