To mark International Women’s Day, Lidl Malta donated €10,000 to The Good Shepherd Sisters − Dar Merħba Bik. This contribution represented a renewal of the company’s support for the NGO which provides shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence.
Building on last year’s commitment, which saw the initiation of a major renovation of the shelter’s playroom, this year’s contribution is directed towards Dar Merħba Bik’s core operational costs and essential services.
While work on the new children’s space continues, the NGO is simultaneously facing an unprecedented rise in the demand for safe housing and professional support.
“Our partnership with Dar Merħba Bik has shown us the harsh reality of the struggles many women and children face in our community,” Owen Micallef, Lidl Malta director, said.
“While we are proud to provide this financial support, we also recognise that the needs of the NGO are vast. We are standing with them not just as donors, but as advocates.”

The foundation is inspired by the motto ‘One person is worth more than the whole world’, which is taken from St Mary Euphrasia, foundress of the Good Shepherd Sisters.
This is the reason behind the services given at Dar Merħba Bik and Dar Santa Bakhita: to welcome the women and their children, victims of domestic violence, and help them feel safe and empowered to move forward in life in dignity.
