In December 2025, the annual rate of inflation as measured by the HICP was 2.4 per cent, down from 2.5 per cent in November 2025.
Data published by the National Statistics Office shows that the highest annual inflation rates in December 2025 were recorded in Education (4.3 per cent) and Food and non-alcoholic beverages (3.7 per cent).
On the other hand, the lowest annual inflation rates were registered in Communication (-5.5 per cent) and Clothing and footwear (-3.2 per cent).
The largest upward contribution to the overall annual inflation was registered in the Food and non-alcoholic beverages Index (+0.68 percentage points), largely due to higher prices of meat.
The second and third largest contributions were measured in the Restaurants and hotels Index (+0.48 percentage points) and the Transport Index (+0.33 percentage points), mainly on account of higher prices of restaurant services and air transport services, respectively.
The downward contributions to the overall annual inflation were registered in the Communication Index (-0.20 percentage points) and the Clothing and footwear Index (-0.13 percentage points), mainly reflecting lower prices of mobile phone services and garments, respectively.
