MIA confirms its trust in CEO Alan Borg

Borg has contracted renewed to 2030

Malta International Airport (MIA) CEO Alan Borg has had his contract extended to 2030, as the company looks to push through a €345 million investment plan in the coming years.

Borg has led the airport’s management team since 2015, having first joined the company in 2007. His new three-year contract term will begin in February 2027, when his current deal expires.

In a market statement issued on Wednesday, MIA said it welcomed just over 10 million passengers in 2025, a 12.3% increase over the previous year. The company is now targeting 10.5 million passenger movements for 2026.

Passenger traffic in December alone was up by 19.9% when compared to December 2024.

Aircraft movements were up 11.4% in 2025 and while seat capacity rose by just over 13%, the average seat load factor remained largely unchanged at 85.4%.

Guidance issued by its board of directors indicates that the company expects revenues to reach €162 million this year with post-tax profits of €51 million. The airport, however, expects to invest almost double that, €90 million, in an expansion project that will see the airport grow by a further 6,000 square metres and connect to the multi-storey Park East car park.
