A fundraising evening by the db Foundation raised €40,000 for Dar tal-Providenza’s new independent-living residences for persons with disabilities.
The event, Dreams of Independence: A Night of Giving, brought together business leaders, community supporters and partners for an evening of generosity and solidarity at db Group’s LOA restaurant in St Paul’s Bay. db Group covered all the night’s expenses, ensuring that every euro raised through ticket sales and donations went directly towards Dar tal-Providenza’s work.
Dar tal-Providenza is expanding its vision and model of care by developing independent-living homes in the heart of village communities across Malta and Gozo, including a property which was recently donated to the organisation. These homes will allow persons with disabilities to live more autonomously in a community setting, supported by trained staff. The initiative aims to give them greater dignity, privacy and independence. The funds raised will go directly towards completing and furnishing one of these residences.
Presenting the cheque, db Foundation chairperson Sandra Sladden thanked all contributors and emphasised that such initiatives help individuals with disabilities to fulfil their dream of living independently.
Dar tal-Providenza expressed its gratitude, noting that support from the business community is essential to sustain and expand its residential services.
Fr Martin Micallef, Director of Dar tal-Providenza, said: “This donation will go towards a flatlet in Ħamrun, where a young woman with intellectual disabilities, who also holds a job, can now look to the future and live a more independent life. This support will directly fund this initiative, and as part of our 60th anniversary, we have also invested in two additional flats, where other residents will be able to live independently.”
Founded in 2019, the db Foundation supports a wide range of social initiatives aimed at strengthening communities, improving wellbeing and uplifting vulnerable groups. Its recent efforts include assistance to the Karl Vella Foundation, which provides educational and psychological support to families facing illness or loss; the Inspire Foundation, which offers specialised therapy, education and inclusion programmes for persons with disabilities; and YMCA Malta, which supports individuals experiencing homelessness.
