Two students to represent Malta at the European Money Quiz in Brussels

Thea Muscat, a student from St Nicholas College Dingli Secondary School, and Owen Bartolo who attends Maria Regina College Mosta Zokrija Secondary School, were selected as the national champions who will represent Malta at the European Money Quiz (EMQ) 2025 on 22-23 May in Brussels.

This is the fifth consecutive year that the Malta Bankers’ Association (MBA), in collaboration with the Department of Accounting and Business Studies within the Directorate for STEM and VET Programmes, Ministry for Education Sport Youth Research and Innovation, organised the quiz at national level to select the Maltese participants for the EMQ final.

The selection event was held on the Kahoot! platform for schools on February 25, with around 400 students from various state, church, and independent schools simultaneously taking part in a challenging test of their financial knowledge. The two students were declared the national winners having answered the most questions correctly in the least amount of time among all participants.

Thea Muscat and Owen Bartolo will together participate in the EMQ as Malta’s national team and will be joining the representatives from all other participating countries in the event which is hosted by the European Banking Federation. The MBA will cover the costs of the flight and accommodation expenses for the students’ trip to Brussels.

The EMQ forms part of the activities of the European Money Week (EMW), which is held every year in March. The EMQ is the largest European-wide competition that aims to improve financial literacy among students between 13 to 15 years of age. Launched in 2017 under the coordination of the EBF as an initiative to promote financial education by national banking associations in Europe, the EMQ is one of many activities organized in over 30 countries, including Malta, as part of the EMW.
