Strategic hire strengthens the firm’s VAT offering and deepens its value to clients in complex, highly regulated sectors
Following the recent strategic merger between Beacon Finance and FACT Group, the newly unified firm has appointed William Cassar as Head of Indirect Tax, further strengthening its ability to support clients with practical, commercially focused advice on Maltese and international VAT matters.
The appointment marks another important step in FACT’s growth strategy as it builds a broader, more specialised professional services platform for businesses operating in increasingly demanding regulatory and transactional environments.
With a combined team of more than 30 professionals, FACT now offers integrated expertise across accounting, audit, tax, payroll, residency and corporate services. The addition of a dedicated indirect tax lead enhances the firm’s ability to deliver joined-up advice to clients who require both technical depth and sector-specific understanding.
William brings more than ten years of experience across tax compliance, advisory, payroll and transactional support, having advised both private and corporate clients across a range of industries. His track record is defined by a strong commercial mindset and an ability to translate complex tax issues into clear, workable solutions for clients.
He joins FACT from a career that includes roles at Deloitte and Fenlex, and brings particular expertise in the yachting and maritime sectors which areas where VAT treatment is often highly technical, cross-border in nature, and commercially significant. His arrival further strengthens FACT’s position in sectors that demand specialist knowledge and responsive advisory support.
William is also an active contributor to the local tax profession. He currently sits on the Domestic & Compliance Sub-Committee of the Malta Institute of Taxation and the Tax Sub-Committee of the Malta Maritime Law Association, contributing to ongoing discussions around tax developments and sector-specific issues.
Commenting on the appointment, FACT said:
“William’s appointment reflects our continued investment in specialist capability following the merger. Businesses today need advisers who combine technical excellence with commercial awareness, particularly in areas such as VAT where complexity can create both risk and opportunity. William’s experience in local and international indirect tax, together with his strong sector knowledge in yachting and maritime, adds further depth to our offering and strengthens the integrated platform we are building for clients.”

“This is an exciting time to be joining FACT. The merger has created a strong platform with the breadth of expertise and ambition needed to deliver real value to clients. I look forward to leading the indirect tax function and helping businesses navigate Maltese and cross-border VAT matters with practical, well-structured advice that supports both compliance and commercial decision-making.”
Founded in 2017, Beacon Finance grew rapidly from a small audit practice into a 20-strong firm serving a diverse client base across accounting, audit, tax and payroll. FACT Group, meanwhile, has operated in Malta for over 30 years, with an established reputation in audit — including within the gaming sector — as well as corporate services and residency programmes.
The merger has brought together two complementary firms with aligned values, creating a stronger market proposition for clients seeking deeper expertise, broader service capability and a more integrated advisory relationship. The FACT name has been retained, reflecting its long-standing market recognition, while a refreshed visual identity incorporates Beacon Finance’s branding to represent the shared direction of the merged organisation.
FACT’s leadership team combines long-standing experience with a clear vision for the future. Founder of Fact Group, Jesmond Pace, brings three decades of experience in practice, while the next phase of the firm’s development is being led by partner Matthew Sapiano together with former Beacon Finance leaders James Spiteri Staines, Michael Spiteri Staines and James Cuschieri.
Together, they are focused on driving the firm’s next phase of growth, expanding specialist capability, and continuing to deliver the high standard of service clients expect in an increasingly complex business environment.
