The Malta Bankers Association (MBA) has appointed Izabela Banas as its new deputy chair.
Banas succeeds Henry Schmeltzer, who served in the role since June 2022. He quit the MBA role following his departure from MeDirect Bank (Malta) p.l.c.
Banas is the Group Chief Financial Officer at MeDirect and also sits on the group’s board. She has over 25 years of experience in finance, including stints at Credit Suisse, Willis Towers Watson and General Electric. She previously served as Bank of Valletta CFO and CFO of HSBC Private Bank and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
In a statement, the MBA thanked her predecessor Schmeltzer for his years of service to Malta’s banking sector.
“The Association wishes him well and trusts that the sector will continue to leverage on his extensive knowledge and experience in the years ahead,” it said.
