Ocean Horizon Mediterranean Index launches

Combining marine investing and marine conservation.

Ocean Horizon, a Malta and Cyprus-based venture blending blue economy investing and ocean conservation, has announced the launch of the Ocean Horizon Mediterranean Index – the world’s first geographically-focused ocean economy thematic equities index, a financial index centered on the Mediterranean Sea and generating funds for Mediterranean environmental conservation.

The Ocean Horizon Mediterranean Index tracks companies operating within the Mediterranean marine economy and channels a portion of management fees to on-the-ground marine conservation efforts.

This innovative structure sets a new benchmark for thematic investing by providing financial opportunity with measurable environmental benefit.

The index maintains a majority focus on ocean-related businesses active in the Mediterranean region and supports conservation initiatives through partnerships with three established local Mediterranean NGOs: AKTI (CY), Marevivo (IT), and Nature Trust Malta (MT).

These organisations combat marine pollution, restore coastal habitats, protect biodiversity, and deliver environmental education across the Mediterranean region.

Kelly Christodoulou, Partner at Ocean Horizon (Cyprus) said, “The blue economy is growing but the expanse is also having an impact on the blue ecology. The Ocean Horizon Mediterranean Index channels part of the management fee to marine-focused NGOs (AKTI, Marevivo, Nature Trust Malta) operating in the Mediterranean region. This program is a philanthropic initiative designed to support ocean conservation efforts.”

Michael Hardiman, Partner at Ocean Horizon (Malta) said, “We are excited with the launch of the Ocean Horizon Mediterranean Index, and are optimistic about the Index’s potential to give investors truly meaningful exposure to the Mediterranean marine economy.”

The index is calculated by IndexOne (UK), and Global Beta Advisors (US) has expertly adapted the index into risk-defined tradeable versions, with investment & trading platform MEXEM providing access to European investors.
