FAPI Motors welcomes Changan as part of global EV giant’s European expansion

FAPI Motors has officially introduced Changan to the Maltese market, marking the debut of one of China’s top four automotive groups with the launch of the all-new Deepal S07, a premium all-electric SUV.

“Our new brand Changan represents the future of automotive mobility, combining intelligent technology, electrification and design excellence and we are proud to be part of this bright future,” said Steven Sammut, commercial director of FAPI Motors.

“We are also proud to be launching the Changan brand with the all-new Deepal S07. This is just the beginning; several additional models are planned for launch across 2026 and 2027. Our goal is to offer Maltese drivers the opportunity to experience and live the smart, sustainable and value-driven mobility solutions that the brand is producing today.”

With 44 years of automotive experience, Changan operates as a fully integrated manufacturer with 21 production bases and 76 plants worldwide. The brand is present across Europe in countries including Germany, UK, Netherlands, Norway, Greece, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Belgium, Luxembourg and now Malta.

Its strategy emphasises innovation, safety and competitive value, with a strong focus on intelligent vehicle systems, electrification and future mobility technologies.

The Changan Deepal S07 combines sleek design, intelligent technology and high-performance electric mobility. At 4.7 metres in length, the fastback SUV features frameless doors, hidden door handles, signature LED lighting and 20-inch diamond-cut wheels.

Its interior offers electronically adjustable heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic roof with electric sunshade, a 15.6-inch infotainment system with 14 speakers (including driver headrest speakers), vegan leather upholstery and wireless smartphone charging.

Technology in the Deepal S07 is designed to enhance safety and convenience, including an augmented reality heads-up display, intelligent voice assistant with gesture control, driver monitoring system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, mobile remote control and a 360-degree camera with transparent chassis.

On the road, the Deepal S07 delivers a 475km range, rear-wheel drive, a 160kW motor and acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. DC fast charging replenishes the battery from 30% to 80% in just 35 minutes, and the SUV offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality of up to 6kW.

Ethan Yin, executive vice general manager of Changan Europe, highlighted that Changan is aiming to increase its total sales from 2.9 million vehicles in 2025 to five million by 2030, and that its expansion into Europe plays a significant role with around 1,000 sales and service locations operational by the end of the decade.

Changan officially entered the European market in March last year, building on decades of accumulated insight into key European markets. Guided by its ‘In Europe for Europe’ strategy, the brand is committed to establishing a strong and sustainable presence in the region, with plans to set up local production facilities ahead of 2030. This commitment is already reflected in Changan’s European footprint, which includes dedicated R&D and design centres in Italy and Germany, as well as the establishment of its European headquarters in Munich last year.

Yin added: “Malta is an important market in our European expansion plans, valued at approximately €2 billion. We are excited to finally be introducing Changan’s technology-driven vehicles here and to grow the brand’s presence alongside our forward-thinking partners, FAPI Motors.”
